Dual Danish-American national Benjamin Pedersen has today, Wednesday, 15th January, been confirmed as Double R Racing’s first driver signing for the eagerly-awaited 2020 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship.

The 20-year-old debuted in British F3 last season and became a race winner during round eight at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit with a superb drive. He was also a podium finisher at Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk.

Additionally, Pedersen dovetailed his British F3 campaign with a part-season in the F3 Americas Championship where he secured the Vice-Champion’s position despite missing six races. Along the way he claimed seven victories, 11 podiums and three pole positions.

Now joining multiple British F3 title winners Double R for his sophomore campaign in British F3, Pedersen – who is backed by DirtFish Rally School, Bell Helmets, The Heart of Racing, Giving Tech Labs and Global Racing Group – is confident of mounting a major bid for title honours and especially with a full year of experience under his belt.

For 2020, of course, the championship is introducing an upgraded package for the popular and proven Tatuus chassis with bodywork improvements, enhanced safety features and also an electrical upgrade to further improve the already impressive reliability.

“I’m very excited to finally announce I’m joining Double R for the 2020 BRDC British F3 season”, said the Copenhagen-born racer, “I feel very confident we can have a strong and successful year now that I have a year under my belt in the UK from last season, with track and car knowledge. The whole Double R team was extremely impressive during initial testing and I’m very excited to work with this passionate, successful and incredibly professional team on a daily basis at the factory and, of course, come race time!”

Making his car racing debut in 2016 in the F4 United States Championship, Pedersen ended the season inside the top 10 of the driver standings. Returning the following year, he improved to fourth overall in the championship with three race wins and six podiums.

In 2018 Pedersen graduated to Formula 3 in the F3 Americas Championship powered by Honda, where he charged to third in the standings with 10 podiums. He dovetailed his season’s racing with continued participation in F4 in the USA, concluding the year fifth overall with a pair of victories.

Delighted to secure Pedersen’s signature for the new season, Double R team principal Anthony Hieatt commented: “Benjamin showed some impressive pace last season in his first year in Britain, and we’ve been impressed with what we’ve seen so far in testing. With a full year of experience in the championship under his belt, and having learnt all of the tracks, he should be a driver to watch. You can’t underestimate the importance of experience at this level, so we’ve got high hopes for the new season and we’re determined to mount a challenge to be back on top in the championship. We will definitely be back with three cars again, and it’s fantastic news to be able to confirm Benjamin so early in the New Year.”

British F3 will again be contested across eight race weekends in 2020, a total of 24 races, with the championship curtain-raiser taking place at Oulton Park in Cheshire on Easter weekend, 11th to 13th April. The season will conclude at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit in Leicestershire over the weekend 19th/20th September.
