Two Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) drivers in the Formula Regional European Championship confirm the standing of and interest in the FIA certified championship
After the confirmation of the participation in the 2020 season of all the teams registered that took part in last year’s championship, and the new 25 point version of the FIA Super License that is up for grabs, further signs of the regard in which the Formula Regional European Championship certified by FIA is held continue to appear. The first two drivers officially presented by Prema for the 2020 season are Gianluca Petecof, a strong driver who has already completed two seasons in the Italian F4 Championship, with an amazing fourth place in the overall classification and top rookie in 2018 and second overall in 2019, and Arthur Leclerc, younger brother of Ferrari’s F1 driver Charles, who will be able to show just how much “blood will out” in the only FIA certified championship at this level.
Angelo Rosin – Team Principal: “It is with great pleasure that we continue to work with Gianluca for the coming season. It will be his third year with us so he has great knowledge of the team’s work method and ethics, which will definitely be an advantage in terms of adapting to a new car and making a step up technically. We are delighted to have him on board for 2020. We are also extremely happy to welcome Arthur to the team. We are absolutely looking forward to having him in our talent pool. In the early stages of his career he made the most of his chances to race, so we are confident about his potential for 2020, especially given how we saw him perform as a competitor last year. He is an outstanding addition to the team, and on our side we are determined to work as hard as we can to make the difference for our drivers.”
Gianluca Petecof: “I’m really excited for 2020, stepping into Formula Regional with PREMA Powerteam once again after two seasons in Formula 4. I want to thank the Ferrari Driver Academy and Shell Motorsport for the opportunity. We will try to do our best and we are looking forward to this new challenge stepping up to a new category; we’ve got some data already which is really positive so let’s get on with the job.”
Arthur Leclerc: “I am really happy to announce that I will drive in Formula Regional with one of the best teams in the junior series. I did my very first test in single seaters with Prema two years ago and I have always dreamed of racing with them. This great opportunity comes with another big chance for me, as I am proud to announce that I am joining the Ferrari Driver Academy. I am very grateful for the support and the trust given to me. I cannot wait to be back in a race car!”
