American driver Kris Wright has signed with UK-based Fortec Motorsports for the 2020 Euro Formula Open series which starts its season in April at Circuit Paul Ricard in France. The series is comprised of nine races and can be followed in the U.S. on MotorTrend On Demand. Wright, the 2018 IMSA Prototype Challenge Champion, tested with Fortec at Barcelona’s Catalunya Circuit in December and the decision to join the team as its first driver in a two car EuroFormula effort was made today.
Kris Wright said: “I know the Fortec organization and expertise of Fortec having driven for them in BRDC last year. Driving the new Fortec-Dallara 320 on circuits like Monza, Pau and the others is going to be a great challenge but exciting, too. I’m good to go!”
Fortec’s EuroFormula Team is supervised by veteran motorsport manager Mick Kouros who is the teams EFO Formula Three manager and Senior Engineer.
Mick Kouros said: “Fortec is looking forward to continuing the strong relationship it has developed with Kris, having driven in his first formula series outside of America last year with us. Kris tested extremely well during the invitational test in Barcelona in December. He adapts quickly to any car that he drives so we are looking forward to 2020.”
The Fortec-Dallara E320, which Wright will drive, features the halo device, which is used in Formula 1, strengthened crash structures, upgraded fuel cell, and a lightweight aesthetic design. Fortec will use VW Speiss Engines.
