Swiss youngster Joshua Dufek will join MP Motorsport for his debut season in motor racing, as the 15-year-old prepares for an assault on the Spanish Formula 4 Championship with the Dutch team.
Dufek, who was born in London to a British mother and Austrian father, joins MP Motorsport after a distinguished career in karting, where he was part of Sauber’s junior team in 2019. Dufek now hopes to follow in the wheeltracks of the Spanish Formula 4 Champions that have been delivered by MP since the team joined the category in 2016.
“It’s an absolute joy to be able to join such established Formula 4 frontrunners,” said Dufek about teaming with MP Motorsport, “I’m looking forward to a successful partnership in 2020 and can’t wait to go racing. This will be an exciting first year in car racing for me.”
“We are happy to welcome Josh to our Formula 4 team”, said Sander Dorsman, team manager at MP Motorsport, “He has shown very well throughout his entire karting career, and we hope to transfer that talent to a new environment in which we feel that Josh will thrive.”
In 2013, Geneva-based Dufek won the Swiss Karting Championship in the Mini category as well the Vega Trofeo Karting Championship – both during his maiden year in karting. During the two subsequent years, he went on to take seventh and second in the Super-Mini category before claiming fourth in the 2017 German ADAC Masters X30 Junior Championship.
Moving up to international OK Junior level in 2018, Dufek joined the Sauber Karting team in 2019 for a twin assault – taking ninth in the WSK Euro Series and several heat wins and podiums in the CIK-FIA Karting World Championship.
