Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam) started from fourth on the grid and managed a fantastic overtaking manouevre on his two teammates Arthur Leclerc and Gianluca Petecof, both starting from the front row. Just as the Dane took the lead, Leclerc, Petecof and Vips settled in behind him but then all tried to occupy the same space. Three into one didn’t go and Petecof lost a load of positions and Vips off as well, while the Safety Car was deployed.
At the restart the race continued with Vips making a massive recovery effort until he found himself in fourth, just behind Jamie Chadwick (Prema Powerteam). He tried to overtake the English driver but she held position and Vips ran off track and into retirement. The Safety Car was back out again.
At the second restart Gianluca Petecof (Prema Powerteam) was in fourth, and close to Chadwick, but the battle was interrupted when Emilio Pesce (DR Formula) tried an impossible overtaking move on the innocent Gillian Henrion (Gillian Track Events). The Safety Car was deployed once more and led the cars to the end of the race with victory for Rasmussen, followed by Pasma, Chadwick, Petecof, Pierre Louis Chovet (Van Amersfoort Racing) and Andrea Cola (Monolite Racing).
This evening race 2 will start at 19.55 local time with live coverage on motorsport.tv, MS Motor TV (Sky 218 channel) and live streaming on the acisport.it website and on the Facebook page of the championship.
