Leclerc lost the lead at the start of the race in favor of Petecof who proved to be very good at holding that first place despite the repeated attacks from the Monegasque. Behind them were Rasmussen and Vips.
Arthur Leclerc (Prema Powerteam and Ferrari Driver Academy) was slightly slow from pole and was overtaken by teammate Gianluca Petecof (also from the Ferrari Driver Academy), and then had to hold off Juri Vips (KIC Motorsport and Red Bull Junior Team) for second. The top four places went to Petecof, Leclerc, Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam) and Juri Vips. The two leaders were glued tofether for most of the race with around 0.4 seconds between them most of the time.
Petecof put in an extraordinary drive, holding his concentration and making no mistakes to keep the lead. He also managed to slightly stretch the gap to Leclerc when the latter went wide and dirtied his tyres, losing places and failing to recover until the closing lap of the race. Petecof won, ahead of Leclerc, Rasmussen, Vips, Patrick Pasma (KIC Motorsport) and Jamie Chadwick (Prema Powerteam).
The classification after the first round of the season sees Petecof in the lead on equal points with Rasmussen (55), while third is Leclerc (43).
The next races are on 22nd and 23rd August on the French Paul Ricard circuit.
