2020 Italian F4 Championship Powered by Abarth – Pizzi closes in to Take the Championship Lead

Gabriele Minì (Prema Powerteam and member of ACI Team Italia) started Race2 from his third pole position thanks to his impressive efforts in qualifying. Alongside him was Francesco Pizzi (Van Amersfoort Racing) and behind them were Andrea Rosso (Cram Motorsport) and Dino Beganovic (Prema Powerteam and driver of the Ferrari Driver Academy program).

At the start Pizzi made far better getaway than Minì to take the lead.They were followed by Beganovic, Rosso and Filip Ugran (Jenzer Motorsport) who immediately attacked the Italian and then passed him a few laps later.

It wasn’t log before Pizzi, Minì and Beganovic opened up a gap of 5 seconds to Ugran, but then Rosso ran into trouble and was overtaken by Sebastian Montoya (Prema Powerteam) and Pietro Delli Guanti (BVM Racing). The first three, meanwhile, cotinued on unchallenged with Pizzi starting to break away from Mini, while Beganovic attacked the Sicilian.

The race ended with a virtual safety car on the last lap, with the podium made up of Pizzi, Minì and Beganovic. Behind them were Ugran, Montoya and Jesse Salmenauto (Bhai Tech Racing). “I am delighted with the hard work done with the team and I must say that the path with the ACI Sport Federal School since last December has made me grow a lot in the transition from karting to formula racing,” said Pizzi.

The ranking after the first meeting of 2020 sees Francesco Pizzi in the lead with 58 points, Minì with 55 and Ugran with 49.

The next round of the championship seven will take place at Imola on 29th and 30th August.
