It should have been Van Amersfoort Racing’s first victory in the 2020 Formula Regional championship, the one that Dennis Hauger missed from pole. In fact, a large part of the race was played out at the start with Oliver Rasmussen (Prema Powerteam) getting away very well from third to take the lead at the first corner. Slower once again off the line were the VAR drivers, with Hauger losing the lead of the race, but still holding second, while Chovet was overtaken by Leclerc for fourth, and Petecof, in an attempt to overtake the Monegasque, went off track and dropped to the rear of the pack. Matteo Nannini (Monolite Racing) also started well going from seventh to fifth position.
The race continued with a battle for the lead between Rasmussen and Hauger, the latter trying to recover the lead until the end, but without success, while Patrik Pasma, ruler in Monza, overtook Nannini.
Chovet managed to overtake Leclerc after several attacks to go fourth. Meanwhile, the battle for sixth between Nannini, Gillian and Petecof was well and truly on. The latter, after numerous attempts, finally managed to overcome his two opponents.
Rasmussen took the win with Hauger attacking him even in the last corner, but the Dane did not concede anything to the Norwegian and therefore there was no possibility of overtaking. Third was Chovet, fourth Leclerc, who recovered points on Petecof, who was sixth behind Pasma.
Race 3 will start tomorrow at 10.30 local time.
