In the first free practice session on Friday the Imola track was wet and Leclerc was the fastest, but the Monegasque was hampered by gearbox problems for FP2, where a very fast and effective Hauger was the stand out on a dry track in the afternoon.
In the first session Arthur Leclerc (Prema Powerteam) was fastest with a 1:57.521, followed by Dennis Hauger (Van Amersfoort Racing) taking part in his second weekend of the series, having been immediately on the pace in Barcelona, atopping the watch with a 1:58.542. Third was Oliver Rasmussen, Leclerc’s teammate, with 1:58.545, just 3 thousandths off second place. The championship leader, Gianluca Petecof, was held up and could only manage sixth with a 1:59.326.
In the second session on a dry track, Leclerc was unfortunately sidelined by a gearbox problem that meant he never even made it out on track, so Hauger took advantage of his absence to set a best time of 1:46.222, while behind him newcomer Ian Rodriguez (DR Formula by RP Motorsport) was immediately fast with a 1:46.653. Third again was Rasmussen with a 1:46.661, while Gianluca Petecof still lagged behind, finishing eighth as a result of technical problems.
