2020 Formula Regional European Championship – Pasma Beats Leclerc to the Win

on

Overtaking on the Imola circuit between cars with the same performance is really difficult, and so Pasma endured the whole race holding off a very fast Leclerc. It was Patrik Pasma who started from pole in the third and final race of the penultimate round of 2020, on a circuit where overtaking has already proven to be particularly difficult. The Finn’s pace was good and he held first place ahead of Leclerc and Rodriguez, Chovet and Petecof.

A spin by Rodriguez at the Variante Alta dropped him to last, probably as a result of accelerating too early due to the impetuousness of wanting to win. Ahead Pasma and Leclerc were only 5 tenths apart.

Meanwhile there was exciting battle for several laps for fifth place between Lappalainen, Hauger and Rasmussen, the latter still having a mathematical possibility of taking the title.

Again Emidio Pesce showed improvements and was driving well in eighth place, getting ever closer to the scrapping trio immediately ahead on him.

10 minutes from the end Henrion spun at the Acqua Minerale and came to rest in the gravel, meaning the Safety Car needed to take the lead, Pasma, Leclerc, Chovet, Petecof, Lappalainen, Hauger, Rasmussen and Pesce settling in behind it.

At the restart the positions did not change, even if Leclerc was right on Pasma’s tail. Lappalainen made a mistake and was passed by Hauger, Rasmussen and Pesce. Pasma took the win, ahead of Leclerc, Chovet, Petecof, Hauger, Rasmussen and Pesce.
