Giovinazzi Joins Prema Powerteam for GP2 Series
The 22 year-old Italian is delighted with this development which is possible due to the continuing support of Jagonya Ayam, the Indonesian company that has backed his career in motorsport from the start. “Finally, I’m in GP2. Prema’s Team Principal Angelo Rosin welcomed me into his great organisation, offering me a chance I can’t refuse,” he said. “I always dreamt of becoming a professional driver and I always tried to make it happen with everything I’ve got, since I was a baby in the first stages of karting. And now I feel I’m on the right path to make this dream come true. With each step of my single seater career, I have always tried to thank the people who believed in me in the only way I could: gaining the best possible results as often as I could! My greatest desire for the upcoming season? To continue this tradition, of course. I know that Prema Powerteam is the best possible choice for a young driver. So, as an absolute beginner in GP2, I’m sure I can count on a team with such a great history in motorsport and once again I must give thanks to my sponsor Jagonya Ayam.”
Giovinazzi treasures the memories of his most recent seasons in motorsport: “Now looking back I can see I’ve come a very long way. Growing up in motorsport I met a team mate who became my best friend. Sean Gelael and I have enjoyed ourselves on track and off, since we were in karting. I also have to give massive thanks to Trevor Carlin for the great support his team gave me over the last two seasons. I’m so happy to be racing together with Sean again in the same championship this season. And, above all, I can’t wait to meet his father Ricardo again, a gentleman I met and got to know in my last karting years and who has helped me since then. I owe all my fantastic years in single seaters to Ricardo Gelael and I hope to give him a lot of satisfaction again this season.”
