Euroformula Open´s Winter Series event in Jerez Promises Close Battles

Diego Menchaca (Campos Racing) tops timesheets at Jerez´s curtain-raiser after two days of testing. Habsburg (Drivex) and Calderón (Teo Martín Motorsport) rounded off the top-three. 22 cars took part in Euroformula Open´s Winter Series event in Jerez

The inaugural round of the Winter Series came to an end today at the Circuito de Jerez. They were two extremely positive days with testing activity to fine-tune the cars for the upcoming season. Besides, testing was blessed with two warm, sunny days and rain only hit today´s final session.

Mexican Diego Menchaca, with his Campos Racing-entered Dallara F312, finished the two-day test on top of the timesheets. Menchaca already set the fastest lap time yesterday with a 1:36.343, which was good enough to beat Ferdinand Habsburg (Drivex). Austria´s posted a time of 1:36.582 and finished ahead of Julio Moreno (Campos Racing), Igor Walilko (RP Motorsport) and Kang Ling (DAV Racing), they all securing the top-five positions.

Unlike yesterday, today´s opening test session was when drivers set their personal best times. Once again, Menchaca was quickest with a lap time of 1:35.561, which was the best of two days of testing. Habsburg finished 2nd ahead of Tatiana Calderón (Teo Martín Motorsport), who was third making her comeback to the series. Leonardo Pulcini (Campos Racing) finally took 4th spot and newcomer Petru Florescu (Teo Martín Motorsport) was 5th fastest. Young German star David Beckmann (Campos Racing) secured sixth place with Damiano Fioravanti spearheading the charge of RP Motorsport in seventh. Colton Herta and Carlin took 8th place on their debut in the Euroformula Open. Two drivers of RP Motorsport, Antoni Ptak and Matteo Ferrer finished 9th and 10th respectively.
