Herta on the pace in Barcelona for Euro Formula Open testing

Carlin’s Colton Herta has enjoyed a strong final day of official pre-season testing for the Euro Formula Open Series today finishing the afternoon session as the fastest driver on track while his overall time today saw him record the second quickest time around the Barcelona circuit. Herta, who will turn 16 next week, had been working alongside team mate Ameya Vaidyanathan over the course of the two day test which saw them both make strong inroads as the final day of testing came to a close ahead of the opening race of the 2016 season next month in Estoril.

Following two previous tests in Spain and France, the final pre-season test was an opportunity for Herta and Vaidyanathan to reacquaint themselves with their Euro Formula Open cars. After two sessions today, in which Herta had topped the latter of the two, the 15 year old American racer ended the day as the second quickest driver overall.

Herta said of his test programme, “We’ve worked really well on testing and it was a case of a few little adjustments and getting the car where we wanted. We were able to do this and ended up quickest this afternoon which is really positive for us as we look forward to the opening race of the season. I’ve driven around Barcelona in the past, so I was able to get up to speed there quite quickly and focus on the little details of the car and my driving. Overall it definitely gives me great confidence for Estoril next month knowing that we were fastest this afternoon”

Vaidyanathan was also improving consistently as he continued with his own testing programme ending the day in 15th position overall. The Indian racer was unable to take part in the afternoon session due to the commitments of his BRDC Formula 4 Championship parallel test programme.

Herta and Vaidyanathan will be joined once again by Keyvan Andres, who missed this test due to school commitments, for the opening round of the season in Estoril next month.
