Fewtrell Tops Donington Test
Max Fewtrell has raised the bar in pre-season Ford MSA Formula testing at Donington Park after setting the fastest time of the day and beating the 2015 pole lap in the process. The British racer was joined on track by Carlin team mates James Pull and Devlin DeFrancesco for the test which saw all three drivers set impressive times and end the day comfortably within the top eight. Fewtrell, who completed a total of 74 laps, was a strong runner from the outset this afternoon and set his benchmark fastest lap with time to spare before the end of running.
Comprising of two sessions today, this morning offered all 16 drivers the chance to get up to speed around the Leicestershire circuit. Carlin’s James Pull was the quickest of the teams’ three runners in the first outing setting the second fastest lap with Fewtrell in seventh and DeFrancesco in 11th.
However the afternoon session saw Fewtrell move his Ford MSA Formula machine to the top of the order with a lap of 1:07.391 which was unable to beaten as the day drew to a close.
Fewtrell said of his day, “This afternoon was really strong for me, I’ve only ever done one day at Donington before so it was a case of getting to grips and we did that really quickly. The pace was great and when we put new tyres on we were really strong. Overall I feel as though testing is going well for us, we have great pace and having my name at the top as the day ends gives me lots of confidence ahead of the season. We’re just looking to continue to carry that momentum now.”
Meanwhile Pull was consistently on the pace finishing the afternoon in sixth position overall while DeFrancesco rounded off a strong day in eighth ensuring that all three Carlin cars were comfortably within the top eight.
The first race of the MSA Formula Championship will get underway for reigning champions Carlin next month at Brands Hatch.
