SMP F4 Opens the Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix

The second season of the SMP F4 Championship certified by FIA will officially start on 29th April as part of the support programme for the 2016 Formula 1 Russian Grand Peix in Sochi, in less than a month.

After a successful first season that saw the SMP F4 Championship taken on board as a support event of the WTCC, in 2016 the North European Zone series has the honour of opening the 2016 Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix at Sochi Autodrom.

Twenty drivers will demonstrate their skills to their Formula 1 elders and a caterie of journalists from all over the world, providing a unique opportunity for the youngsters from Russia, Finland, the Netherlands and Spain.

“We are looking forward to this first round, as being a Grand Prix support event is not usual for Formula 4. But we got that opportunity and we will create a great event for the season opener. It will be hard for the drivers as it will be their first race weekend and on top of that racing with Formula One will add a bit more pressure. But it will be a good exercise for them”, commented Afa Heikkinen.

The competition will start on April 29th with Free Practice and Qualifying sessions. Saturday will feature Race 1 and the F4 boys and girls will end the weekend on Sunday with Race 2.
