After the first teams were announced a few days ago, two Spanish drivers have now confirmed their participation in the maiden Spanish F4 Championship season certified by FIA.

Fifteen years old Xavier Lloveras was competing in karting until the start of the season, being vice-champion in the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy and 3rd in the Spanish Championship last year. Lluc Ibañez was one of Lloveras’ competitors in karting, scoring a second position overall in the Spanish Championship the same year as Lloveras was 3rd.

Both drivers have chosen to compete with the Dutch team MP Motorsport, whose team Manager Sander Dorsman commented: “We are confident that Xavi and LLuc will do a very good job this season. They have been strong and consistent during the winter testing days and they will be very tough contenders in the championship. They are more than ready to kick start the championship in Navarra”.

LLoveras will also compete in the SMP F4 NEZ Championship certified by FIA, with its first round starting in a few weeks when it supports the Formula One Russian Grand Prix in Sochi Autodrom. The Spanish driver will therefore have a program of 14 events with 41 race starts in 2016.

“I’m very happy to announce officially that this year I will be competing in the SMP F4 NEZ and Spanish F4, both certified by FIA.

Before taking the final decision I have done 10 test days with the F4 organised by Koiranen GP. They have been very positive days. I drove in all sorts of track conditions, and was always in the Top-4. My development wouldn’t have been posible without my coaches Matt Parry and Mikko Pakari.

In the Spanish Championship, I will take part with the MP Motorsport team. It’s a team with a lot of experience and lots of wins in different categories of racing. My objective in this championship is finishing in the Top 3 and fighting for some wins.

In the SMP F4 NEZ Championship, everything will be more difficult because I have never been to any of the tracks on the calendar. I will fight for the final podium even so. I am a bit nervous but motivated for this exciting moment!” commented Lloveras.

More announcements are to come as the Spanish F4 grid takes shape.
