Günther Fastest in Free Practice

The drivers in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship already having had the chance to prepare for the race weekend at the 4.381 kilometres long Hungaroring with a test day on Wednesday, another 80 minutes of free practice followed.

Maximilian Günther (Prema Powerteam, 1:33.418 minutes) posted the fastest lap time from his team-mates Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam, 1:33.581 minutes) and Ralf Aron (Prema Powerteam, 1:33.621 minutes).

Günther moved up into first place with seven minutes remaining and thus toppled erstwhile pace-setter Lance Stroll. The Canadian, who, like Günther, managed to win one race during the season opener at Le Castellet, wasn’t able to improve his time and had to make do with second place behind Günther.

In equal manner, Ralf Aron also moved up to third place in the closing stages, making the Estonian the best-placed rookie in the results. George Russell (HitechGP, 1:33.741 minutes) ended up fourth from Sérgio Sette Câmara (Motopark. 1:33.763 minutes). Thus, the Brazilian was the best-placed driver to use a Volkswagen engine behind four drivers with Mercedes-Benz power.

His team-mate Joel Eriksson (Motopark, 1:33.812 minutes) was classified sixth in free practice as the second-best rookie from Ben Barnicoat (HitechGP, 1:33.917 minutes), Ryan Tveter (Carlin, 1:33.979 minutes), Nick Cassidy (Prema Powerteam, 1:34.021 minutes) and Niko Kari (Motopark, 1:34.065 minutes).
