Alexander Vartanyan Fastest in Free Practive at Navarra
The first ever Free Practice day of the F4 SPANISH CHAMPIONSHIP came to an end on Circuito de Navarra. With the twelve drivers of the new series finding their pace on the 3.933 km Spanish circuit.
The skies were cloudy, but the weather was as warm as you might expect in Spain. After the usual morning technical and administrative checks were done and dusted, the drivers got into their cars for the first Free Practice of the season.
The first forty minutes session was dominated by Alexander Vartanyan, who managed an early 1:39.716 after just 8 laps, with Roope Markkanen just 0.156 seconds slower, ahead of local hero Xavi Lloveras who was third with a 1:40.025.
“It is a nice feeling to top this first session ever in the F4 Spanish Championship. Drivex is a really professional team and I am sure we have the pace and motivation all together to do a good job this season,” said Alexander Vartanyan.
After lunch, the drivers went out for the last session of the day with the early pace setter being Russian Nikita Volegov from Drivex with a time of 1:41.8, but then Richard Verschoor slammed in a 1:40.435, snatching the fastest time of the afternoon session.
Xavi Lloveras ended second in a time of 1:40.674, followed by Roope Markkanen and Vartanyan.
“It is good to be back in Spain to race. I am very happy that the F4 Spanish Championship isn’t just a dream anymore, it’s real, and I will fight to be the first ever winner!” said Xavier Lloveras.
“I’m keeping my head cool. It’s just a Free Practice day. The real job starts tomorrow,” said Richard Verschoor.
Tomorrow the serious business starts as the first qualifying session of the new F4 SPANISH Championship gets underway at 10:50 local time.
