Sargeant Snatches Top Spot at Snetterton
15 MARCH, 2017 – Logan Sargeant became the first driver to top more than one official pre-season test, ahead of the inaugural round of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford.
A host of drivers, including Sargeant, recorded their best times around the three-mile Snetterton 300 circuit at the very end of the day; turning the final 20 minutes of track action into a qualifying style shootout. Sargeant was the pacesetter in 2017’s first official pre-season test at Oulton Park last month and having been second fastest in the morning at Snetterton, recorded a time of 1m 51.437s on his final flying lap to snatch top spot from Oliver York.
York’s best time of 1m 51.469s was just 0.032s adrift of Sargeant, and further underlined the optimism from the Fortec Motorsports camp regarding the international kart champion’s prospects this season.
TRS Arden and Alex Quinn maintained their testing form from Brands Hatch last week where they set the pace. Quickest in the first session and just 0.154s off of Sargeant’s best.
Jamie Caroline married speed with consistency for Carlin on his way to fourth fastest. Such was his consistency that he set identical personal bests in both sessions with a 1m 51.762s lap time. He was followed by the TRS Arden trio of Ayrton Simmons, Oscar Piastri and Olli Caldwell in 5th, 6th, and 7th respectively.
Meanwhile, Carlin’s Patrik Pasma and Richardson Racing’s Harry Webb both improved in the second session and remained comfortably amongst the top 10 quickest drivers.
GW Motorsport’s Jacky Liu improved most with regard to outright lap time with a 1m 54.140s in the afternoon; almost two seconds quicker than his best before the lunchbreak.
Lucas Alecco Roy was another big improver, his best time putting him just under half a second clear of Liu and earning him 10th on the timesheets.

Elsewhere, Jamie Sharp and Sharp Motorsport found themselves amongst the top 10 in the first session, ending up 12th as the chequered flag fell on the day’s running.
The final official pre-season test for the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford takes place at Rockingham Motor Speedway next week on Tuesday 21 March, as excitement levels reach fever pitch ahead of the first race weekend of the season at Brands Hatch on 1-2 April.
