Carlin duo Vaidyanathan and DeFrancesco dominate day 1

India’s Vaidyanathan and Canada’s DeFrancesco led the time sheets on first day of testing. Fittje (Fortec), Florescu (Campos Racing) and Troitskiy (Drivex) rounded off the top five

The first day of Winter Series testing at Circuito de Jerez saw Ameya Vaidyanathan and Devlin DeFrancesco setting the pace in their Carlin-entered Dallara F312 cars. Vaidyanathan clocked a lap time of 1:35.212, which was just 182 thousandths of a second quicker than his teammate DeFrancesco’s personal best. Behind, German Jannes Fittje (Fortec) moved up to third in the closing moments of the session with his time of 1:35.501. Romania’s Petru Florescu led the charge for Campos Racing and finished 4th on the time sheets ahead of Russia’s Nikita Troitskiy (Drivex).

Outside the top five, Thiago Vivacqua (Campos Racing) took 6th fastest beating his fellow countryman Pedro Cardoso (Teo Martín Motorsport) by a narrow margin. Matheus Iorio finished 8th ahead of Euroformula Open newcomer Thomas Randle. Randle, from Australia, is making his debut in the series at the wheel of a Dallara entered by RP Motorsport, the best introduction letter for such a young driver. Eliseo Martínez (Teo Martín Motorsport) also made into the top ten.

Poland’s Alex Karkosik made his debut in the series with Campos Racing and posted 12th fastest lap time behind Christian Hahn (Drivex). Yan Shlom (Fortec), a race winner at Paul Ricard, is back in Jerez just like Ludovico Laurini (RP Motorsport), Daniil Pronenko (BVM Racing) and Javier Cobián (Teo Martín Motorsport). Colombia’s Óscar Tunjo also completed his first day of testing in the Euroformula Open with RP Motorsport.
