Excitement builds for Linus Lundqvist as British Formula 4 season kicks off at Brands Hatch

Last season brought title glory on home soil – in 2017, Sweden’s Linus Lundqvist sets out on the next big challenge of his motorsport career. This weekend will see the 18-year-old Stockholm resident make his debut in the F4 British Championship as the season kicks off at Brands Hatch; and there’s certainly no lack of enthusiasm from the young Double R Racing man on the eve of the new campaign. “This is going to be such a special season for me,” says Linus Lundqvist. “It’s my first time racing abroad, and I’ve been looking forward to this particular weekend for months. Now that it’s finally arrived, I’m just really eager to get going and start pushing. It will be so much fun!”

The 2017 F4 British Championship features ten rounds, each comprising three races. This weekend’s curtain-raiser takes place on the 1.9 km “Indy” configuration of the Brands Hatch circuit, with the short and intense nature of the track expected to facilitate very close lap times throughout the field of roughly 20 cars.

Lundqvist, the reigning Formula STCC Nordic and NEZ champion, is well aware that competition will be tough – but still has his eyes firmly set on putting in a frontrunning performance. “I’m here to try and win as many races as possible and to fight for the title, that’s my clear goal this year,” Lundqvist insists. “For sure there are a lot of quick guys out there, but I can’t go into this aiming for second place. As a matter of fact, I have never felt as well-prepared for a new season, or indeed any race weekend, before. We never did this amount of pre-season testing back in Sweden, and the guys at Double R Racing have been fantastic teachers. OK, our rivals have done just as much testing as we have, but I can only speak for myself and it honestly couldn’t have felt better. I’ll do the best I possibly can and hopefully it’ll be enough!”

The first three races of the season will be staged this Saturday (Race 1) and Sunday (Race 2 / Race 3) respectively.
