2017 Italian F4 Championship – Fernandez Takes Race 1 Win

on

Sebastian Fernandez is the first winner of the 2017
Season

Second was Artem Petrov and Juri Vips third

Leonardo Lorandi took out the Rookie Trophy ahead of Enzo Fittipaldi and Giorgio Carrara, while Sophia Flörsch won the Women’s Trophy.

Sebastian Fernandez (Bhaitech) continued his great form shown in qualifying taking an untroubled win in Race 1. Getting away well from pole position, the Venezuelan not only put a comfortable margin between himself and his pursuers, but he also did not waiver in the slightest when the Safety Car entered the circuit two laps from the race end erasing his advantage. Fernandez can also take the satisfaction of recording the fastest lap of the race. Second was the Russian Artem Petrov (DR Formula), who drove superbly to recover from 8th on the grid. Third was the Estonian Juri Vips (Prema Power Team) who got the better of a race long duel with Lorenzo Colombo (Bhaitech) who finished 4th.

In fifth place was the New Zealand driver Marcus Armstrong (Prema Power Team). Ahead of the first Rookie; the Italian Leonardo Lorandi (Bhaitech). Seventh place for the Dutch driver Job Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport), ahead of the Guatemalan Ian Rodriguez (DRZ Benelli), another Dutch driver in Leonard Hoogenboom (Cram Motorsport) and the Canadian Kami M.Laliberte (Van Amersfort Racing) who was tenth.

In the battle for the Rookie Trophy, behind Lorandi was the Brazilian Enzo Fittipaldi (Prema Power Team), 11th overall, and the Argentine Giorgio Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport) who was 17th overall.

Sophia Flörsch (BWT Mucke Motorsport) was first in the Women’s Trophy thanks to her 19th place overall.

As anticipated, the race did see the Safety Car intervene and it was on lap 13 due to the American Juan Correa (Prema Power Team) and the Indian Kush Maini (Jenzer Motosport) who both left the circuit but were ok after the incident.

Tomorrow, Sunday April 2, at 10:10 and 17:10 will be races 2 and 3, both over a distance of 28 minutes + 1 lap.
It is worth noting that points will be awarded for the Driver’s Championship, Rookie Trophy (for Series Debutants), the Women’s Trophy and the Team’s Championship.
