Rookie Das Takes Pole Position in British F3 Season Opener
Carlin driver Cameron Das took first honours in the BRDC British F3 Series today, claiming the first pole position of the season at Oulton Park. The 17-year –old American recovered from a technical blip early on in the session, to make the most of his track time and catapult to the top of the timing screens. Team mate Enaam Ahmed qualified in a strong third place, with James Pull making it three Carlin cars in the top three in fifth place.
At a bright but chilly Oulton Park this morning, the first qualifying session of the season got underway. Pull wasted no time in getting up to speed, and took the top spot early on, while Ahmed remained in the pits. Das was forced to pit meanwhile with a mechanical issue, which was quickly resolved by team and championship personnel.
Having waited several minutes in the pits, Ahmed was out on track and immeadiately went P1. Das also made up for lost time and quickly made his way up the order, before setting a 1.30.457 which was enough to take provisional pole. With no one able to beat his time, Das duly took his maiden pole position, with Ahmed third and Pull fifth.
Speaking about his first pole position in the series, Das said, “I’m really excited to be on pole position. Coming from the US we weren’t sure what the competition levels were going to be coming over to race in the UK, but I think our winter programme has prepared me really well for this. After my issue at the start of the session I knew I had limited time, so I was focused on giving it 100% from the word go, and I think that motivation might have been worth an extra couple of tenths!”
The first race of the season will get underway at 15.45 local time.
