Ahmed Sets Pace During Rockingham Testing

Carlin’s Enaam Ahmed has started the second round of the BRDC British Formula Three Championship weekend at Rockingham in style, setting the fastest time of the day. The current Championship leader enjoyed strong pace over the course of four 30 minute test sessions today – with his time from the second session unable to be beaten. Team mate Cameron Das was close behind and on form to set the second fastest time of the day while James Pull was also looking strong and posted the fifth quickest time around the tricky anti-clockwise circuit.

Four test sessions today were met with anticipation ahead of the second round of the 2017 championship. Championship leader Ahmed dominated last time out at Oulton Park taking an impressive three victories around the Cheshire circuit. Today, as testing got underway at Rockingham, the three Carlin drivers were all keen to set their cars up perfectly ahead of the weekend – using the four sessions to their advantage, staying out of trouble and avoiding the complications of a small number of red flags, the drivers all came away from the day with strong times and feeling confident in their pace.

As the flag fell to mark the end of a productive day it was American Das who had topped the final session – which in turn became the second quickest lap of the day following Ahmed’s impressive time from an earlier showing. Pull also set his quickest time during the final 30 minute test session of the day to end as fifth overall.

Pace setter Ahmed said of the day, “We know that we have a good car around here and the team have done a really great job so far. I think overall testing went really well for us but I still believe that we have even more to come. It’s going to be really close out there when it comes to qualifying and will definitely come down to the details but we’re looking good going in to the weekend.”

Das added, “Testing went really well today especially the last session which we topped. We were experimenting throughout the day with a few different things and the last change in particular felt really good. I still have a bit to find around here but the car is really hooked up for this track so it puts us in a strong position for qualifying tomorrow.”

Pull said, “The start of the day wasn’t too great however we kept improving throughout and the time began to come together for us. The last session felt great out there however I’m going to be sitting down together with my engineer this evening to see what more we can find to set us up well for qualifying and the races.”

Qualifying will take place tomorrow morning followed by the first race of the weekend in the afternoon. Two further races will get underway on Sunday as the 2017 championship continues in earnest.
