Ameya Vaidyanathan Tops Opening Day at Estoril

Indian driver Ameya Vaidyanathan (Carlin) was the fastest in a packed field on Friday’s test sessions held at Autódromo do Estoril. Vaidyanathan clocked a time of 1:32.083 in the morning after having covered ten laps in his Carlin-entered Dallara F312. Behind, Brazil’s Thiago Vivacqua posted a best of 1:32.338 to secured 2nd place for Campos Racing. Nikita Troitskiy (Drivex) finished 3rd on the timesheets ahead of Harrison Scott (RP Motorsport) and Devlin DeFrancesco (Carlin), who rounded off the top-five.

Romanian Petru Florescu was 6th-fastest in his Dallara entered by Campos Racing with series newcomer Alex Karkosik right behind for RP Motorsport. Simo Laaksonen (Campos Racing) managed to finish 8th ahead of Fortec duo of Jannes Fittje and Yan Leon Shlom.

In the afternoon, higher track temperatures prevented any further improvements and Scott topped second session with his lap of 1:33.935. Florescu and Fittje slotted into second and third places on the timesheets.

Indian Tarun Reddy also made his debut in the Euroformula Open. Carlin announced that Reddy will drive their third car for a full-season campaign. Tarun was quoted as saying: “I’m thrilled to be racing in Euroformula Open this year with Carlin as it’s a fantastic opportunity. I’ll be giving everything I can to deliver the best results possible. This is another big new challenge, with new circuits to learn, and I’m confident we will have a strong season.”

Another debutant was Malaysia’s Najiy Ayyad Razak (Fortec), who managed to put some solid lap times on his first appearance in the Euroformula Open.
