Caroline Makes it Win Number Six in Thruxton Thriller
Carlin’s Jamie Caroline took his sixth win of the season this afternoon in a thrilling F4 British Championship race around Thruxton circuit, Hampshire. Logan Sargeant was in the very middle of the racing action and after running third for much of the race finally took the flag in fourth. Patrik Pasma made up positions from his grid slot and finished seventh. Lucas Roy claimed 13th after pitting for a new front wing in the second half of the race.
Pole man Sargeant made a good start off the line, but swamped by a fighting pack including Linus Lundqvist and Ayrton Simmons, lost out as Caroline swept around from sixth to somehow take the lead.
In a race that saw almost constant changes for positions, Caroline began a race long fight with Lundqvist for the lead, the duo swapping places several times before Simmons distracted the Double R driver long enough to allow Caroline to finally pull away.
Sargeant meanwhile was also kept busy behind the wheel of his F4 car, fighting between sixth and third throughout, fighting hard with Lundqvist, Simmons, Alex Quinn and Oscar Piastri. Roy meanwhile was forced to pit for a new front wing after a tap with another car, the Carlin team returning the German driver back onto the track after a quick pit stop on lap 12.
The fight for the final podium position continued to the chequered flag, with Sargeant facing some aggressive driving on his way to fourth place. Caroline meanwhile had taken the chequered flag 3.8 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, making it his sixth win of the season. Pasma took a strong seventh place while Roy came home 13th.
Speaking about his race, Caroline said, “I’m really delighted. I said it yesterday and again today, the guys behind really made it hard for me, but I was able to break away in the end. Thanks to the team again for giving me a fantastic car, the best of the best; the boys in blue. I didn’t expect to take the first two wins of the weekend, obviously the aim now is to take win number three this afternoon.”
The British F4 drivers will be back on track at 16.25 local time for the final race of the weekend.
