Sargeant Leads Strong Carlin Double Podium
Carlin’s Logan Sargeant and Patrik Pasma enjoyed a strong showing at Oulton Park this afternoon securing a brilliant double podium in the 11th round of the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – Powered by Ford. However fortunes were quite the opposite for both Lucas Alecco Roy and Jamie Caroline who found themselves retired from the second race of the weekend. Sargeant was hunting Oscar Piastri extremely well for the lead of the race, which with his speed on track was looking likely to happen in the second half of the race, however a red flag brought his progress to an end – finishing the race early and leaving him to take second position with Pasma in third.
Following lengthy delays yesterday afternoon due to damage to the safety barriers, the second round of weekend took place this afternoon instead. For this, the reverse grid race, Sargeant lined up on the front row of the grid in second, Pasma just behind in third, Championship leader Caroline in sixth and Roy in ninth.
As the lights went out, it was a solid start for the top three drivers who all made their way round the first corner in tidy formation however Caroline, running in the mid-field, was forced wide while attempting to make his way up the grid. Meanwhile Roy, who had collected some good points during yesterday’s race, found himself right up behind the slow moving car of Karl Massad which left him with nowhere to go as they came together leaving him with damage to his car and sadly saw him retire from the race.

At the front, a fast and feisty looking Sargeant soon began to cut the gap to race leader Piastri and in no time at all was all over the back of the Arden driver who he pressurised extremely well in his efforts to steal the win. Just a little further back Caroline was making great progress too and had soon pulled off an impressive move on Harry Webb before closing in on Linus Lundqvist who was struggling with damage to his car; having made up the positions Caroline was running behind team mate Pasma in fourth.
However Sargeant’s push for the victory was cut short as the race came to a premature end when Pasma and Caroline touched while racing hard leaving Caroline in the barriers. The subsequent red flag meant that Sargeant was unable to fight further for a race victory that was looking well within his grasp – the American racer took the second step on the podium, with Pasma in third.
Sargeant, who moves to third position in the Championship standings, said, “Both Oscar [Piastri] and I had really good starts but unfortunately I didn’t get the jump off the start to take the lead. However I made sure to keep up with him and was pushing really hard for the win throughout the race. I definitely had the pace to fight for the win today so for me it was a shame that the red flag came out when it did because I could have taken it today. But it was a good race and another podium that we can be very happy with.”
Finnish racer Pasma added, “The start of the race was good for me – I started in third and was in third position after the first lap so just kept going from there. I’m pretty happy with the race and the podium.”
The missing third and final race of the weekend will be rescheduled for later in the season in which Championship leader Caroline will line up on pole position.
