Victory Number Six for Ahmed

In another dominant display Carlin driver and championship leader Enaam Ahmed has won again at Snetterton in the BRDC British Formula Three Championship. Ahmed, who secured victory in the opening race of the weekend yesterday, lined up on pole position and enjoyed another trademark start to lead the race without trouble. James Pull, who lined up alongside him in second, put his tough race this morning well and truly behind him to take the third place on the podium and another great haul of points. Cameron Das rounded off a strong weekend with sixth position and more solid points to add to his earlier podium of the day.

For the third and final race of the weekend at Snetterton, Carlin had the front row of the grid nicely locked out with Ahmed having set a lap to place him on pole and Pull alongside him in second. Das lined up in fifth position in the dry conditions.

As has been the story for the 2017 season so far, Ahmed enjoyed another brilliant start and made sure that he led as the cars made their way around the opening lap. However Pull immediately came under pressure from a fast starting Toby Sowery who took second place from the British racer while Das had nicely maintained his fifth place.

Over the next few laps there were very moves for position. Das, involved in a battle, dropped one place, while Pull tried to close the gap on Sowery ahead. However as it was, the action had mainly taken place over the first lap with the positions remaining relatively unchanged.

After 20 minutes of hard racing it was Ahmed who took a dominant sixth victory of the 2017 season – and adds more fantastic points to his championship lead. Pull took his second podium of the weekend in third and Das took the flag in sixth overall.

Ahmed said of victory. “We’ve had great pace here all weekend and I knew that it was going to be one of my strongest tracks of the season – so it’s good to capitalise on that with win number six. Toby [Sowery] was really quick, especially in the opening laps when it took me a little while to get my tyres in, so he pushed me in the first part of the race. It’s been a great season so far but we all have our strengths and weaknesses – this track is a strength for me so it will be interesting to see what happens elsewhere in the season.”

James Pull added, “It’s been a bit of an up and down weekend. We enjoyed a great qualifying, a strong first race and a tough race two. Today there was a little mistake that cost me second but we have the pace and the race craft is there – I just have to keep doing my best and I know that we will get that win soon.”
