Das on the Podium at Snetterton
Carlin’s Cameron Das enjoyed a strong race this morning in the BRDC British Formula Three Championship at Snetterton as the second race of the weekend got underway around the Norfolk circuit. Das, who had started in third, had a great start and was challenging for the lead of the race – eventually taking the flag in second and securing another great podium finish. Yesterday’s race winner Enaam Ahmed started the reverse race in eighth and made progress to finish in sixth position while it was heartbreak for James Pull who suffered contact and a subsequent puncture which saw him drop down the order and in to the pit lane for new rubber.
For the second of three races this weekend at Snetterton, the field lined up for the reverse grid race. As the lights went out Jamie Chadwick was slow away; leaving Das able to capitalise on the mistake and begin chasing Jordan Cane at the front. The pair fought well between themselves for the lead of the race running wheel to wheel before Cane came out on top. Das remained close behind in his efforts to steal the lead of the race as his own.

It was a strong start for team mate Ahmed as well who had already gained a position and was running in seventh before passing an ailing Chadwick for sixth just a little while later. However Pull had dropped back somewhat since the start and over the next couple of laps was caught up in the mid-field battles leaving him vulnerable. Sadly for the British racer contact and a subsequent puncture brought him in to the pits and left him right down the order and out of contention. However Pull made sure to get back out in an effort to set a fast lap to determine his grid slot for the third and final race of the weekend this afternoon – which he did well to secure a front row start in race three.
For Das and Ahmed the rest of the race was a relatively processional affair, Das came under a little bit of pressure from Callan O’Keeffe behind but held the off the Douglas Motorsport driver well, while Ahmed set the fastest lap of the race to secure himself pole position for this afternoon.
At the front a cool, calm and collected Das took second position as the flag fell. The American said of the race, “Jordan [Cane] and I were pretty much side by side for most of the first lap which was a great battle between us! But then I came under pressure from behind so had to back out a little and take second – however I did try a few moves on Jordan throughout the race. Towards the end I dropped back and out of the dirty air to try to get a lap for race three but came under a little bit of pressure so couldn’t quite get the fast lap I wanted however the car felt really great today and I’m feeling confident of a good race this afternoon where I’ll line up fifth.”
The final race of the weekend will get underway at 15.15 this afternoon.
