Lloveras Sets the Pace in Free Practice
14 drivers were present at the start of Free Practice today, in stifling heat, in the desert-like city of Alcañiz. Coming from seven different countries, and four different teams, the international grid was all set on Friday morning to hit the hot Spanish tarmac.
Free Practice 1
The forty-minute session started with decent temperatures due to the early time. Times were traded between the double championships driver Xavier Lloveras, Tuomas Haapalainen, Christian Lundgaard and Nikita Volegov. As this 2017 Motorland event is run on a different layout to that used in 2016, there was no purpose to comparing times, though with a fastest lap of 2:00.879, it was Xavier Lloveras (FA Racing) who set the pace in the morning session.
Xavier Lloveras: “The car was amazing and it is a very good way to start the weekend!”
Free Practice 2
The afternoon session started at 14:00 under a fiercly blazing sun. Tuomas Haapalainen immediately experienced a technical issue, which forced him to stop at the pit exit. After a check on his car, the young Finn was able to go back out on track again.
At the end of FP2 it was MP Motorsport driver Christian Lundgaard who snatched the fastest lap in 2:02.217, followed by Nikita Volegov and Alexander Smolyar. The first Spanish driver was Marta Garcia (MP Motorsport) holding P6.
Christian Lundgaard: “We were lucky with a good tow and I got my lap together! Let’s see what tomorrow awaits us!”
