Vips Wins Race 2 at Mugello, Ahead of Armstrong and Petrov

In the Rookie Trophy Lorandi was first, ahead of Branquinho and Carrara

Borgo San Lorenzo (Florence).

Race 2 got underway under clear blue skies with the temperature sitting at 20 degrees. From pole position, the Estonian Juri Vips (Prema Power Team) made a great start to take the lead, meanwhile behind him the Italian Leonardo Lorandi (Bhaitech), was defending the attacks of the New Zealander Marcus Armstrong (Prema Power Team). The order among the first three remained unchanged, meanwhile the Russian Artem Petrov (DR Formula), who started 8th, started to fight his way through the field, passing firstly the two Bhaitech drivers; the Italian Lorenzo Colombo and then the Venezuelan Sebastian Fernandez around the outside. On lap 5 the Safety Car entered the fray and then at the restart, Armstrong was able to pass Lorandi. From behind, Petrov continued his great run, ultimately taking third position at the end, with Lorandi fourth and the German Lirim Zendeli (BWT Muecke Motorsport) fifth. Race 2 actually finishing behind the Safety Car.

Sixth was Fernandez, ahead of Colombo and the American Juan Manuel Correa (Prema Power Team). Ninth and tenth position respectively for the Italian Aldo Festante (DR Formula) and the Guatemalan Ian Rodriguez (DRZ Benelli). One of the championship contenders, the Ducthman Job Van Uitert (Jenzer Motorsport) retiring from the race during the Safety Car.

Lorandi won the Rookie Trophy and with him on the podium was the Brasilian Felipe Branquinho (DR Formula), who was second, and the Argentine Giorgio Carrara (Jenzer Motorsport), who was third.

This afternoon, at 16:20, will be Race 3, over a distance of 28 minutes + 1 lap.
