Scott (RP Motorsport) Extends Winning Streak at the Hungaroring

Briton Scott maintained the top spot to earn its sixth triumph of the season. Troitskiy challenged him for the win and finally took 2nd place on the rostrum ahead of Hyman (Campos Racing). Troitskiy got another Rookie class win, with Laaksonen (Campos Racing) and Karkosik (RP Motorsport) also made it onto the podium

The Euroformula Open reached another thrilling crescendo at the Hungaroring, which played host for round four of the series. Briton Harrison Scott (RP Motorsport) and Brazilian Thiago Vivacqua (Campos Racing) emerged as the winners at races packed with action but Nikita Troitskiy (Drivex) scored more points than any other driver in the field and, despite he is still aiming for his elusive maiden win, his second and third places were a full display of talent once again.

Scott continues to lead Drivers’ standings on 179 points ahead of Troitskiy, who climbed into second on 111 points. Indian Ameya Vaidyanathan (Carlin) currently places third, behind Vivacqua and Jannes Fittje (Fortec Motorsports) currently sit fourth and fifth respectively. Rookie points leader Troitskiy extended his championship lead with a bounty of 64 points, with Fittje second having 46 points to his name. Devlin DeFrancesco (Carlin), Simo Laaksonen (Campos Racing) and Petru Florescu (Fortec Motorsports) round off the top five. RP Motorsport lies first in the Teams’ standings on 68 points with Drivex now second ahead of Carlin and Campos Racing.

In the morning, Scott conquered his fifth pole of the season ahead of Troitskiy. Scott carried the pace into the second qualifying session and held provisional pole position after the first runs. Despite Troitskiy’s late charge, Scott still sealed yet another pole position with a lap time of 1:36.139 beating his closest rival to pole by a mere 78-thousanths-of-a-second. Behind, DeFrancesco was set to start third alongside Eliseo Martínez (Teo Martín Motorsport) on row two. Hyman and Laaksonen made it an all Campos Racing row three with his teammate Vivacqua taking 7th spot on the grid sharing row four with Alex Karkosik (RP Motorsport).

Further adrift, Vaidyanathan and Florescu completed the top 10 for Carlin and Fortec Motorsports respectively.
At the beginning, it was a very eventful start to the race. Scott fended off Troitskiy but behind the leaders a pile up occurred. Martínez spun after making contact with Vaidyanathan and, at the same time, DeFrancesco missed his brake point and collided into Florescu with other cars miraculously avoiding the crash. Seconds later, Fittje and Lodovico Laurini (RP Motorsport) also clashed. With both DeFrancesco and Florescu forced to retire and several other cars pitting, the safety car was deployed.

At the restart, Scott set the pace in his RP Motorsport-run Dallara followed by Troitskiy. Hyman, running in third place, was under attack from his teammate Laaksonen. Karkosik was 5th ahead of Vaidyanathan and a trio of Brazilian drivers: Vivacqua, Christian Hahn (Drivex) and Matheus Iorio (Campos Racing).

Scott and Troitskiy pushed each other hard breaking the record for the fastest lap. With just five tenths separating the leaders at times, Troitskiy finally secured the fastest lap, adding an extra point to his haul, but Scott claimed his sixth win. Troitskiy crossed the finish line little more than a second behind the race winner. Hyman pulled away from Laaksonen to achieve his maiden podium in the series. With Laaksonen fourth, Karkosik brought fifth place home and third in the Rookie class.

Vaidyanathan finished sixth and Vivacqua took 7th place. Hahn scored points for Drivex for the second time this year and Iorio and Tarun Reddy (Carlin) rounded off the top ten, they both producing remarkable drives.

Following an eight-week summer break, the season will resume at the Home of British Motor Racing, Silverstone, on 2-3 September.
