Dutchman Jarno Opmeer SMP F4 NEZ Championship
The KNAF Talent First program from Netherlands has placed another of their top drivers in the SMP F4 NEZ Championship for the coming season.
After years of topping the charts in the karting world, Dutch driver Jarno Opmeer will be fighting for the SMP F4 NEZ Championship in 2016 along with his fellow countryman Richard Verschoor who has already confirmed his participation a few weeks ago.
It was his family history which brought Opmeer to the motorsport scene from an early age, He was the youngest ever Dutch champion at nine years old, which surely made his relatives proud. “My grandfather, father and uncle were karting drivers, so that’s how I started to be connected with the sport. I started karting when I was four years old and really liked the speed. That’s how I started my racing career,” commented Opmeer.
After the first test day in Motorland where the rookie impressed the field with his skill in wet conditions, the KNAF Talent First program led by Maarten Van Wesenbeeck confirmed Opmeer as the second Dutch driver to enrol in the second year of the championship certified by the FIA.
“Jarno is a very talented driver who was part of our KNAF Talent First karting program for many years. It is great that he chose to enter the SMP F4 NEZ Championship for his step up to single-seaters. I think he will surprise many people with outstanding results”, commented Maarten Van Wesenbeeck
Jarno Opmeer said: “I feel very happy and confident to join the Series! The circuits look cool and the cars are the same because of the strict regulations so there’s no advantage for anyone. After few hours in the car, my confidence grew up and now I am improving each and every time I jump in it. This year, I will be patient and gather experience by finishing races. Let’s see what the season will bring”.
