Fewtrell Fights Hard in Impressive Carlin Dominated Debut

Newcomer Max Fewtrell gave a stellar performance, alongside his fellow Carlin teammates in the opening rounds of the MSA Formula Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The 2015 Championship team dominated the weekend, which saw the 16-year-old take second step of the podium in his debut race. Outperforming all other newcomers to the series, Fewtrell’s performance proves he is the one-to-watch.

Topping the pre-season timing sheets gave the youngster a charged springboard into qualifying, landing an excellent second row spot, just behind his experienced teammates.

Round one saw the promising young driver convert his superb qualifying performance into a second place finish. Storming from the start, he shot past James Pull to challenge Florescu for the lead into Paddock Hill. But his racing knowledge and cool tyres saw him wisely yield to command second place to the finish.

“The start was perfect and I very nearly had Petru off the line too.” The newcomer added “To finish second in my first ever Ford MSA Formula race is a fantastic result and something which I’m really proud of.”

Round Two was a dramatic affair with rain throwing out safety cars and eventually a red flag. Starting in eighth on the grid at the restart, Max managed to fight through the trouble that hampered his nearest rivals, to finish in impressive sixth. Whilst his teammates Devlin DeFrancesco and Petra Florescu both retired.

The final round of the thrilling season opener, saw another Carlin victory bring the team tally to 6 podium finishes for the weekend. Proving the pace of the championship defenders is a force to be reckoned with. Max’s consistency throughout the weekend allowed him to secure 4th place in the Championship standings, just one point behind race two winner Sennan Fielding.

The MSA Formula Championship charges into the next round at Donington Park on 16-17th April. Where Max aims to close the gap to his rivals and challenge for the championship.
