First Teams Revealed
Since the entries’ opening back in January, several teams have taken an interest in the new Spanish F4 Championship certified by FIA. Today, three teams can be confirmed while more are to sign in the coming weeks.
Drivex is the first team to confirm its participation in the maiden season. The team, led by Pedro de la Rosa and Miguel Angel de Castro, both former drivers, is a school which aims to transfer their knowledge to the younger generation, both in racing and through their driving school. They will enter two or three cars with the drivers to be announced shortly.
“F4 in Spain was an absolutely necessity and Koiranen GP is making this project comes true. From Drivex’s side, we will push as hard as possible to have cars on the grid because if we don’t have a lower formula championship in Spain, it will be difficult for young Spanish drivers to reach the higher categories such as FIA F3, GP2, GT, Le Mans etc…
So for us the Spanish F4 Championship certified by FIA will be the first step in the motorsporting life of these kids and our aim is to lead them to our F3 team and some cases to our GT team. Obviously our links with F1 and Le Mans are big, so we will work to bring our best drivers to the top teams. But of course the youngsters have to start from somewhere and we are very happy to be present in the Spanish F4 Championship”, commented Miguel Angel de Castro
The new team Ukyfu Racing is making its first appearance on the Spanish scene as well, with the company haeded by two young engineers, Pelayo Acevedo and David Garcia.
“We are delighted to announce we will be participating in the Spanish F4 Championship this season. We are a fresh new team but we have a solid basis of experienced people. Although the level is very high with some great drivers, we are aiming to be very competitive in our first season”, commented Acevedo and Garcia.
MP Motorsport will also be joining the Spanish F4 Championship. The experienced Dutch team, led by Sander Dorsman, currently compete in GP2 and have raced in categories such as Formula Renault 2.0. They will be present for the maiden season of the new born championship.
“We are happy to join the Spanish F4 Championship with four cars. We believe this new F4 Championship will be a great challenge for our team and drivers. The series is hosted by some of the best European circuits. We will announce our drivers shortly and we are already working hard to prepare ourselves for the first race meeting in Navarra,” commented Sander Dorsman.
The Series is taking shape day by day with testing starting tomorrow, with a two day test in Valencia to prepare the first drivers and teams for the upcoming challenge!
