About Me

What can I say? I’m an Anglo-German 60+ year old professional writer (technical author to you, sunshine despite a recent job title that said User Information Manager), with an obsession with motorsport – particularly Formula Three (and a consequent sideline as a motorsports journalist and photographer though since the end of 2015 I have stepped back from that), a tendency to drink too much Champagne, and an ever-increasing collection of books and DVDs.

After a 10-year spell as a contract technical author roaming round Europe like some high-tech nomad (France, Belgium, Austria, back to Belgium, a brief spell in the UK, the Netherlands, and finally France again), I finally bit the bullet and in 2004 took my first permanent job since 1994. A couple of years later I went back to contract work for a while, but since 2006 I’ve been a permanent employee for a couple of companies.

So what annoys me apart from airports? Bad writing, people who are not open-minded, bureaucracy, modern packaging, removal men… the list goes on. Oh, and did I mention that I loathe airports? If you ever hear of some woman having an attack of air-rage at Heathrow, it could very well be me!

I’ll be using this blog for all sorts of things, including rambling about running, reporting on restaurants, talking about our travels, archiving race reports, press releases, and related bits of motorsport writing and photography as done by myself and Lynne. These are available for anyone to see as they’re already in the public domain. However, the copyright still belongs to me/Lynne… with all that that implies (and one of the things that that implies is that if you steal anything without asking, and I catch you doing it, I will come after you).

Hi! I’m Sue, and I’m from SlimKicker, a diet/fitness app and online website. I bumped into your blog yesterday and it captured my interest!

I’m contacting you b/c we’re about to release a fitness tracker (similar to FitBit) early next year, and are looking for bloggers who would be interested in getting 1 for free to review when it is out (negative or positive).

Would you be interested in doing this? You can email me at: sue (at) slimkicker (com) with ‘Review’ in the email heading if you are.

Just to let you know, our online website SlimKicker basically turns your diet/fitness goals into a level-up RPG game. The tracker will work with the website, and allow people to track calories burned and number of steps they walk automatically. The more they exercise, the more points they rack up! That’s basically how it will work.

Anyway, hope to hear back either way…

    – Sue

Hi smtfhw, really interested in your Vauxhall Lotus photos, I have a project ongoing at the moment about this and wondered if there might be a possibility of using a couple, subject to making proper arrangements. Let me know! Mark

What a great read of your NC500 trip. My wife and I are (well me) are in the research and planning stage for doing it June 2025 over 2 weeks and your blog has been great to add to that process, in particular your accommodation stops.

Glad to be of assistance! It’s fabulous out there and what suits some will not work for others (I can’t imagine doing it in a motorhome, for example, because I want proper home comforts and a real bathroom!). If you have any questions, just ask.
